Propaganda 0, ChatGPT 1: AI blocks election shenanigans

OpenAI's recent report highlights attempts by global propagandists to use ChatGPT in election interference, though these efforts have largely failed to make significant headway. The AI tool has been exploited by state-backed groups from countries like Iran, Rwanda, India, and the European Union, as well as criminal actors.

In one case, Iranian propagandists created fake news websites and social media posts aimed at U.S. voters. Similar operations targeted elections in Rwanda and the E.U., but OpenAI intervened early, preventing substantial impact.

The report also reveals a growing trend of bad actors using AI to automate their work, but no major breakthroughs have been achieved yet in creating viral propaganda or enhancing hacking capabilities. OpenAI’s transparency on these issues demonstrates the ongoing experimentation with AI by malicious groups, though AI's effectiveness in their operations remains limited.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has launched an "Action Plan" to boost venture capital and prevent European startups from relocating to the U.S. Key initiatives include extending the European Tech Champions Initiative and creating an exit platform to support acquisitions and public listings for tech startups. EIB President Nadia Calviño stressed that the plan will help scale up European innovation and keep companies in Europe.

The plan follows a report from Mario Draghi warning that the EU is falling behind the U.S. in tech, with many European unicorns relocating abroad due to commercialization challenges.
