ChatGPT's 'tasks' feature: your new AI-powered personal assistant

OpenAI is rolling out a new beta feature called "Tasks" for ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro users globally. Tasks allows users to set reminders and recurring requests, such as daily news briefings or weekend plans based on weather. Notifications will be sent via platforms where Tasks is enabled.

This marks OpenAI's entry into AI agents capable of limited independent actions, like browsing the web on a schedule, though capabilities remain controlled—Tasks can't continuously search or make purchases.

Accessible via ChatGPT's web app, Tasks signals a step toward more advanced systems like "Operator," a rumored AI agent capable of coding and booking travel, expected soon. OpenAI aims to refine this feature during the beta phase before expanding it to mobile apps and free users.

Biden's last push on AI: clean energy and federal sites

Source: Unsplash

With just days left in office, President Joe Biden has issued an executive order allowing private AI companies to lease federal sites to build data centers, requiring them to match their energy use with clean resources. This move aims to bolster U.S. leadership in AI and reduce reliance on foreign infrastructure.

Data centers currently use 4% of U.S. electricity, projected to grow to 9% by 2030. This renewable energy push follows new restrictions on AI chip exports to adversaries like China and Russia. However, these efforts face potential reversal under President-elect Donald Trump.
